Len Tabner, South Fare Basin Looking Down Towards Chatham, 762 x 1320mm
Len Tabner is a north country artist whose life’s work has been centred on North Yorkshire. He was born in 1946 at South Bank near Middlesbrough, studied at Middlesbrough College of Art, Bath Academy of Art, University of Reading. He has exhibited at many north country galleries and his works have been purchased by Northern Arts, Tyne and Wear Council, the Washington Development Corporation, Unilever and others. He is a watercolour painter and printmaker whose favourite subjects are landscapes and seascapes. He paints out of doors in all weathers (when inclement under a huge umbrella) which gives his pictures of storms at sea, such as this one, a wild immediacy. Although watercolour is the basic material, he intensifies his scenes by conte chalk and graphite.
