Watercolours
The Sir Frederick Gibberd watercolour collection is on permanent display in the Gibberd Gallery. All of the paintings were donated to Harlow in 1984. They came from a personal collection of Sir Frederick Gibberd, made over a period of some forty years. His collection had begun in 1935 and was limited by three conditions: the picture had to be by a British artist, the artist must be alive, and the picture should be a water-colour, drawing or print. The limitations that the artist must be British and alive was to encourage young artists. The collection includes works by John Nash, John Piper, Elizabeth Blackadder and Edward Bawden.

Sculpture Collection in Harlow
Over the past fifty years the Harlow Art Trust has built up a remarkable collection of sculpture by some of the foremost names in modern and contemporary art which attracts visitors to Harlow from all over the world. To walk around the centre of Harlow is to experience a large-scale open-air art museum, designated a sculpture town in 2011 and winning the Marsh Prize in the same year. Harlow sculpture collection has been commissioned by the Harlow Art Trust since 1953 and includes the work of world famous sculptors such as Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth. The original founding members of the Art Trust were Sir Frederick Gibberd and Lady Gibberd. Sir Frederick Gibberd was the master town planner for Harlow and these sculptures were part of his vision to make Harlow a great town to live and work in.
