Brian Wynter. Born I915 in London. Member London Group. Studied at Westminster School of Art and Slade School. Has lived near St. Ives, Cornwall since 1945 and is a member of the Penwith Society to which both Barbara Hepworth and Ben Nicholson belonged. Painter in oil, watercolour and gouache, mostly of the Cornish landscape with its stone walls and cottages, harbours and china clay workings. His pictures are generally less abstract. than this example which, incidentally, is not a ‘true’ watercolour as the lightest tones are opaque body colour. Represented in the Tate Gallery, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum and provincial galleries.
