Kenneth Rowntree, Lamp and Log Shed, 254 X 495 mm
Born 1915, Scarborough. Studied Ruskin School, Oxford, and The Slade. Painter in oil and watercolour of landscape, street scenes, and figure subjects. He has had considerable influence as a teacher, first at the Royal College of Art and then, from 1959 until 1980 as Professor of Fine Art at the University of Durham. As a watercolourist he is of the same school of English Romantic painters as his friends Bawden, Nash, Piper and Rothenstein and Kenneth Rowntree – all represented in this collection.
