Edward Bawden CBE RA, Orcades Mural, 406 x 1219mm
Edward Bawden RA CBE. Born 1903, Braintree. Studied Cambridge School of Art and Royal Collge of Art. An Essex painter and graphic designer who lived most of his working life in Great Bardfield. Generally painted in watercolour, never oil, mostly landscapes and buildings, his style varied from coloured line drawings to much freer impressionistic paintings (like this one) but all his work was unmistakably in his ‘handwriting. This is a large mural which is a cartoon for a mural in the lounge of the Orient liner Orcades.
