David Blackburn, Yellow Coastline, 609 x 508mm
Pastel. Born in Huddersfield, Yorkshire 1939, where he still lives. Painter and draughtsman. Studied at Huddersfield College of Art and Royal College of Art. Visiting lecturer Melbourne University. He works almost exclusively in pastel, a difficult medium which smudges easily and has to be ‘fixed’ immediately the drawing is finished. Unlike many artists who use pastel freely (smudging it for different effects) he works precisely and with great skill produces organised forms and a colour brilliance almost like enamel.
