Anthony Gross CBE, RA, Stream, 1965, 406mm x 495mm
Anthony Gross born 1903, London. Lived in Greenwich and France. Member of the London Group. Studied at the Slade School and Ecole des Beaux Arts. Painted in oil and watercolour, landscapes and rural scenes in England and France. In this picture he used thin washes of colour and drew over them with a brush. He had a considerable reputation as a printmaker, few artists possessed such technical skill in that medium. He made cartoon films and also worked as an illustrator - he illustrated the Forsyth Saga. Official War Artist 1944 - 45. Works can be found in the Tate Gallery, British Museum, Metropolitan Museum of New York, and other public collections. He died in France in 1984.
