Alan Reynolds born 1926, Newmarket. Studied at the Woolwich Polytechnic Art School and Royal College of Art. Gained a considerable reputation as a painter in the English Landscape tradition and then in 1960 turned to abstract painting. This picture is one of many plant studies he made for large oil paintings. Represented in many public collections including the Tate Gallery, the Fitzwilliam Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, New York and the National Gallery of South Australia.
