With Langlands & Bell's models as inspiration as well as the important extensive collection of sculpture in Harlow we are inviting anyone to come and create inventive sculptures and place them on our Harlow map. What would you like to see and where?
Last Saturday we held the opening of MODE(L)S OF THOUGHT and had the privalege of the artists offering an insight into their practice talking in conversation with our trustee David Mitcheson. Over 60 people attended and were impressed with the artists practice over the last 36 years and the humour which they bought also. Last Monday The Downs Primary School year one class enjoyed a workshop in the gallery making fantastic art work and exploring sculpture with artist Elaine Tribley. One of the childrens parent emailed us to let us know that 'My daughter was very animated when describing her day, she enjoyed the trip very much and is eager to return.' If you think your school would be interested in a workshop please contact the gallery. The workshops are for all ages working with artists to to facilitate learning about art and sculpture and free.
We have now released an exciting new Harlow Sculpture Trail App for phones and tablets on Apple and Android. With summer here this app will allow you to discover all of the 70 sculptures in Harlow using an interactive map and 5 great trails to follow. Simple to use this app enables you to enrich your knowledge of Harlow's important sculpture collection with artists including Henry Moore, Helen Chadwick and Barbara Hepwoth. The sixth annual Essex Summer of Art, featuring 19 inspirational art trails, launches on , and runs right through the summer into September. For the first time Harlow will have their own Art Trail with local artists displaying work in shop windows around town as well as in our own community art windows at the front of the Civic Centre.
